Green onions (scallions) are great for cooking and also chopped fresh for salads. Onions are low in calories yet high in nutrients, including vitamin C, B vitamins and potassium. You will receive 100 seeds with this listing.

Plant Type: Vegetable/ onion
Hardiness Zones: 3-9 perennial
Soil Type: well drained/ somewhat rich
Sun Exposure: Full / partial

Planting: six weeks before your last frost date indoor or wait a couple of weeks and direct sow in the garden. Either way, sow the seed about 12 inches deep and somewhat thickly (four to eight seeds per cell). As with other onions, germination can be slow and poor. The most important thing scallion seed needs is constant moisture, which makes starting the seeds indoors, where you can keep an eye on them, a good choice. In USDA Hardiness Zones seven and above, you can begin direct sowing in September, for winter and spring harvesting.

Plant your seedlings in a sunny spot. As with onions, scallions have a very shallow root system, so you may need to water them all season. However, don't let them sit in wet soil. It should be moist, but well-draining.

Watering: Regularly/ keep moist
Harvesting: You can start harvesting as soon as the plants reach about 5 to 6 inches tall and are as wide as a pencil.
